Coaxial cable
Coaxial Cable - Standard Cable
A coaxial cable is used to transmit signals from one place to another. Coaxial cables are usually referred to by
their impedance or RG type (for example, 50 Ohm or RG-X type cables). Coaxial cables may be called using the RG type, but more formal part numbers include mil-spec calls.

Coaxial cables - Specifications
Coaxial cables carry signals through a solid or stranded inner copper conductor. Around this inner conductor is an insulation layer, usually called a dielectric. This dielectric is often polyurethane or polyethylene. Dielectric materials help maintain consistent electrical properties during use. The next layer is typically a gradient. Then, a metal braid or tape shield covers the dielectric. Shielding protects against signal loss and prevents electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).
